Where is the documentation?
Up until now, our story appears to be about an itinerant -- if perhaps somewhat eccentric -- monk who wished to sequester himself in nature to focus on his religious studies. However, the case is far more complex than this.
I've done exhaustive research on this man, and prior to his appearance in Sicily in 1973 he just doesn't seem to exist. There are utterly no records of him. No birth records, no baptism records, no records at all. His last name, Scozze, is a rather unusual one as it means "Scotland" in Italian, so it should have been easy to find records of a Scozze born around 1953 (the man was described by those who met him that first time as very youthful, at around only 20 years old -- though he carried himself as someone much older), but there is simply no record of him.
Neither is there a number assigned to him for an EU old age pension, either.
Given the fact that its been documented the man can speak English as fluently as he can Italian, perhaps he is originally from the United States? I've researched all available records there as well, and again, there is nothing. No records. No Social Security number. No pictures. As far as documentation is concerned, the man does not exist.
Adding to the mystery, there are no photographs of him at, or more precisely, there are none that show his face. The few photos of him on this page are the only ones that exist, and were all taken at a great distance by me in low light conditions, hence the poor photo quality. I'm told he is now active on some modern social media, but still, that picture isn't any more revealing than are these.
There are so many questions here. Where did this man come from? Why are there no records of him? How does anyone make it to their 20th year in the modern world with no documentation, no numbers assigned to him, no pictures taken? What is his connection to Scotland? How did he end up in Sicily?
And again, we are left with this overarching puzzling question: Who is Scozze?!
